CONTROL IS THE DELIVERABLE.A proposed community commitment from one Native Hawaiian designer
Hawaiʻi businesses deserve powerful technology without surrendering the domain, the story, the costs—or the next decision.
This is Elyakim Samuel’s Native Hawaiian perspective—not a claim to speak for every Hawaiian. Program structure, capacity, eligibility, cost and timing remain under review.

“A beautiful homepage is not a community benefit if the keys live in somebody else’s inbox.”
The website is the doorway. The argument is larger.
This is not a “free website” giveaway dressed in tropical colors. It is a proposed promise about control: build something useful, make every cost visible, teach the ordinary changes, and return the keys.
There is a version of help that arrives with a ribbon, a launch post and a login nobody local controls. That is not the version we want to build.
It is expensive as fuck to live here. People are priced out. A website should not become one more mysterious fee, one more locked account or one more thing a local owner cannot move.

“Everybody wants a piece of paradise. Funny how the people keeping it alive are the ones being asked to leave.”

The practical intervention
A proposed five-page static foundation is the container. The work is making a business easier to find, understand and control—without creating permanent dependence.
Domain access and recovery belong with the business.
Words, images, hours, contacts and operating knowledge remain portable.
Renewals and pass-through expenses are visible before launch.
Optional care can end without punishment, surprise fees or hostage behavior.

This demonstrates product craft only. It is not a sponsored business, beneficiary story or outcome claim.
Liberation is practical
That is the test. A sponsored build should leave behind more agency than it found—not another dependency wearing a nicer shirt.

CONTROL IS THE DELIVERABLE.Domain, hosting, platform and pass-through expenses should be named plainly. Exact pilot costs are unresolved and cannot be offered yet.
NO SURPRISE RENEWALS.Export, recovery and provider-change notes are tested before close. Optional care cannot become a toll booth.
NO HOSTAGE BEHAVIOR.
Training should cover the updates a business is likely to make—not turn every corrected hour into another invoice.
KNOWLEDGE GOES WITH THE KEYS.Place is not a palette
Put the responsibility in writing. Make recurring costs visible. Teach the ordinary changes. Leave a clean way out.

Useful records, training and an honest handoff—not lock-in disguised as help.
Aloha ʻāina
Hawaiʻi is home and responsibility—not scenery to sell back to the people living here.
A local business is not a browser window. It is people, rent, suppliers, roads, water, knowledge and relationships. The digital layer should strengthen that system—not quietly take the keys out of it.
Local, Native and non-Native businesses can be part of a better standard when the work respects place, returns control and strengthens the people doing the work. Final eligibility is not yet approved.
This cultural frame learns from public Native Hawaiian sources; it is not a new translation or a claim to speak for the community. The Heʻeia material study is an original editorial cutaway—not a literal map, logo, kapa pattern, crest, seal, sacred mark or claim of affiliation. Final language and interpretation still require practitioner review.

No business should have to perform gratitude, surrender its story or buy monthly care to keep what was built for it.
A five-page static foundation is under review. Exact pages, exclusions, schedule, content duties and capacity are not approved offers.
Owner-controlled access, recovery notes, portable content, visible costs and ordinary-update training would be tested before close.
Care would be a separate agreement and could not determine selection. Price, hours and service terms remain unresolved.
The proposed footer credit remains unless a clearly priced branding buyout is agreed. The fee is unset. Existing agreements are honored; no surprise penalties, domain hostage behavior or content hostage behavior.
A possible way in · no cohort is open
The real invitation can be simple once the rules are real. No slot count, deadline, geography, capacity or selection authority is approved today.

Before any launch
Decide the actual number of builds, whether “accepted” or “delivered” controls the count, and how one-at-a-time work affects timing. Twenty-five remains an aspiration, not capacity.
Define Hawaiʻi connection, business types, exclusions, readiness and whether two proposed places are sequential.
Name the reviewer, rubric, conflict process, response timing, reopen policy and what happens when the build limit is reached.
Approve exact pages, exclusions, content responsibility, hosting/domain/platform costs and any expense the business carries.
Approve account custody, content and image rights, export, recovery, accessibility target, provider exit and data handling.
Set optional care price and service terms. Prepare a clearly priced branding buyout if offered; honor existing agreements and prohibit surprise penalties or hostage behavior.
